Business Growth

I began my foray into entrepreneurship in elementary school when my parents told me that if I wanted a Sega Genesis, I would have to come up with the money myself. From that early age I became addicted to the idea that I could always make my own way.

A well structured business should not only be highly profitable, but also represent your unique vision and values without draining your time, energy and emotional bandwidth. This requires strategic thinking in a variety of areas. You don’t have to figure all this out on your own, I’ve already done the work and helped countless professionals hit six and seven figure incomes without sacrificing their personal lives.

Below are a few examples how we can reach your goals.

Marketing

If potential customers can’t find you, not much else matters. business owners don’t really know where to start with their marketing plan. Some are posting on social media without any really strategy. Even worse, many are spending significant money on paid advertising without understanding how those ads fit in to an overall customer acquisition and onboarding process.

I believe in building a marketing plan that maximizes low cost and free resources before even thinking about spending money on ads. I believe in using social media in a way that is true to your personality; you do not have to sell your soul and post 20 times a day (or even every day) to have a highly effective social media presence. You just have to have a well thought out strategy.

Together will will optimize the interplay between your website, you social media presence, community engagement, and when the time is right possibly paid ads. But the work doesn’t stop there, once a we have more eyes on you we need to convert those visitors into customers. Thats where sales comes in.

Sales

Whether you are a dog trainer, a groomer, or a kennel/daycare owner, you probably do not think of yourself as a salesperson. However, if you want your business to thrive and a life free of financial stress, you must learn to embrace sales. The sales process leads our customers on a carefully thought-out journey from the moment they first encounter our business to the final commitment.

We will assess your entire sales and onboarding process. This includes optimizing your website, developing and utilizing mailing lists and email automation, and creating a clear sales framework (whether through in-person meetings, virtual meetings, phone calls, or emails.)

The goal is to create a sales process that is frictionless for your customers, has a high closing rate, and provides you with confidence and clarity when engaging new leads.

Scaling Up

A challenging decision for any business owner is knowing if, when, and how to scale up. Scaling up can take many forms and include many questions such as:

  • Should I add an employee(s)?
  • What is the first role I should hire for?
  • Should I expand my program offerings
  • Which new program types will be the easiest add?
  • Are some program types more profitable than others?
  • How should I structure the new programs?
  • Is it time to expand into a (new) facility?

I have the benefit of not only my own experience, having developed a fast paced and large scale behavior center, but also the collective experienced gained by working with hundreds of professionals over the past 10+ years. My goal is to help you find the answers to these questions based on your unique vision and goals.

Employee On-Boarding and Development

The dog industry is primarily service based. This means that hiring, training, and retaining reliable and skilled employees is possibly the most important aspect of your company’s growth. However, finding and training a new hire can be time consuming and expensive. This means that developing an efficient plan for onboarding new employees and developing existing employees into new roles can provide big benefits to your bottom line.

One of the things I am most proud of is that my training center produced the same consistent results and revenue whether I was there or not (and I was gone a lot, teaching seminars and spending time with my family after my kids were born.) Each member of my team knew their function and we had systems in place for accountability and growth. Whether you are considering for first hire, adding to your team, or continuing to develop existing staff, I can help you develop a plan for onboarding and developing your team that serves your company’s unique needs.

Facility Planning, Expansion and Management

Taking that first leap considering expanding into a facility or upgrading to a larger space can feel overwhelming. Perhaps you already have a facility but are struggling to create systems so that the business can run smoothly without micro-management, while maintaining a clean an safe environment that produces consistent high quality results. Below are a variety of ways that I help business owners:

  • Acquiring new space:
    • Preparing to secure lending by creating business plans and financial projections (I have spreadsheet templates pre-built to plot expected revenue over multiple years.)
    • Deciding whether to lease or buy.
    • Assessing total space needed (sq/ft) based on your unique vision for the growth of your company.
  • Floor Plans – Boy do I wish I had help with this when I first got started! The design of your facility’s floor plan can have major implication on the safety of dog and staff, cleanliness of the space, ease of workflow, overall capacity (think bottom line), and what types of programs you can easily conduct.
  • Facility Management – This category can include ensuring employee roles are properly assigned without redundancies, and creating systems to ensure employee accountability for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
General Management and Troubleshooting

Many professionals are simply dealing with an acute challenge that use use an outside perspective or additional guidance. These challenges may include but are lot limited to:

  • Managing/handling a troublesome employee(s).
  • Handling a difficult client
  • Creating or revising policy documents (client contracts and forms, employee handbooks etc.)
  • Managing employees time/task management (ensuring your payroll dollars are being used efficiently and effectively).
